Hi, I’m Jason Rubin
In May of 2014 I started my career as a Producer and Host for TYT Sports, a part of the TYT Network, one of the very first digital led news networks. I earned my crash course in the production pipeline and built a community of sports fans intersecting Sports and Politics reaching 500,000 subscribers. At the time it was only YouTube, no Octopus of distribution means to every social media platform, just digital campfires and starting every video, 3-4 videos per day, on “welcome to TYTSports, I’m Jason this is Francis and today…”
Over and over and over and over.
Some stories hit. Some stories missed.
I proceeded to go to TMZ for one year, move back to the East Coast and spend time with ESPN and Amazon before jumping in the pond with Blue Duck Media where, for some reason, they value my creative strategy and understanding of platforms like YouTube and Social Media.
Which brings us here.
Years of starting and stopping. Wanting to have my own thing. Putting a few days of work into having a thing. Stopping. Thinking about the thing. What is it. What do I write. What do I say. How the hell does this help anyone?
I read, a lot. I consume, over-consume too much “content”, and have been a voice in the room where $5 million dollar decisions are made on live events, shows, podcasts, producers, writers, talent, marketing, all of it. I’ve worked with political commentators, professional athletes, the worlds biggest streamers, the world biggest media companies and theres no better time than the present to be so full of myself that I write about it.
You’ll find stories in here. I hope you relate to a few of them. I hope my experience in both the creative and corporate worlds find resonance, or comfort, that nobody truly knows what they’re doing.
In a telegram from famed screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz to Ben Hecht,
“Millions are to be grabbed out here and your only competition is idiots. Don’t let this get around.”
He was speaking on Hollywood in 1925 during a time when Broadway was the cash cow. There’s a lot less opportunities for the millions to be grabbed 100 years later, due to the over-saturation and means in which everybody is capable of, but one thing is for certain in the pantheon of time:
You’re going to work with idiots.
